The Iron Dome is an Israeli air defense system classified as Counter-RAM (counter rocket, -artillery and -mortar), jointly developed by the Israel Defense Forces and Rafael. This system consists of a command unit, detection/tracking radar, and multiple missile launchers, and can be moved by towing or loading. Development of the Iron Dome began in 2005, and it was deployed in 2011, successfully intercepting rockets in April of the same year. The U.S. Army introduced two battalions in 2019 for the defense of overseas camps, and is currently testing it in the mainland United States and Guam.
